"I like your chutzpah." - Chris Peers, founder of Island Records
Hover Fly is a highly talented composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist. Her captivating presence, intricately woven jazz-folk neo-soul compositions and fluency on the bass, cello, ukulele and vocals leaves audiences hungry for more. Her debut single 'Bicycle Toad', released on 19th June 2020, was met with critical acclaim and was premiered on Jazz FM, BBC 6 Music and Soho Radio.
Hover Fly performs as an enchanting solo act, trio or a six-piece band including members from Nubiyan Twist, Onipa, O., Snazzback, Shunaji, Kongo Dia Ntotela and Jelly Cleaver.
During her years spent hovering between Oxfordshire, London and now relocated in Bristol, Hover Fly has spun her musical magic across many lands, gathering a swarm of eager listeners. Frequenting jams in various locations, including jamming bass in front of US legend Thundercat at one of London's former underground jazz hotspots, Unit 31, she is amongst the cohort of leading female instrumentalists paving the way forward for a more gender-equal future music community.
Hover Fly previously toured the UK as Jazz Singer with the award-winning Durham University Big Band, including notable venues such as Pizza Express Jazz Club in London with her “sumptuous display of vocal talent,” and delivered spine-tingling performances in Shambala Festival’s secret Pink Flamingo Jazz Club.
Alongside her own musical journey, Hover Fly teaches music to teenaged refugees and asylum seekers with the Croydon-based organisation Play for Progress and has previously led a project teaching music at a Cambodian Orphanage as well as leading award-winning choirs in the UK. In 2018 she wrote and directed original music for the youth group Acorn Music Theatre Company's modern adaptation of The Odyssey, which was described as "beyond praise," and "agonisingly beautiful."
